“Another Place, Another Time”

Dixon & The Patman Band

An EP of new music in a classic, blues based style from experienced industry veterans.  Bringing together the blues-based riffs and soaring solos of Pat Hand, the funky driving rhythm section of Terry Battle and Jay Munn and the vocal variety and range of Dixon Ulmer.

This 5 song EP varies from straight up blues based rockers reminiscent of Led Zeppelin or Bad Company to the title track which showcases a softer, more reflective side.

Dixon & The Patman Band is the culmination of 10 years of various live musical collaborations between Pat Hand and Dixon Ulmer. Pat invited Dixon and members of his band Misspent Youth to join him for shows with Mark Rivera, (the saxophone player from Billy Joel’s band, Foreigner and many others). They have also been joined by members of The Baby’s and Rick Derringer’s band for other events.  Dixon and Misspent Youth have also invited Pat to join them for various events.  Friends from these projects formed the band 1Nite Stand which played the M3 Festival and the M3 Southern Rock Festival twice at the historic Merriweather Post Pavilion sharing the bill with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Charlie Daniels, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Outlaws, Kix , Loverboy, Ratt, and many more.

The chemistry together every time they took the stage led Dixon to approach Pat with the idea of taking their musical partnership to the next level by recording some “new music in a classic style”.  Dixon’s vision was blues-based rock.  Pat jumped at the idea and indicated that he already had some tracks that might be a perfect place to start. A dozen years before Pat had been invited to record at Baltimore’s Sheffield Studio by a friend who was studying there.  Pat called on his brother-in-law, drummer extraordinaire Jay Munn, and Terry Battle, a professional Baltimore based bassist that Pat had enjoyed working with many times.  The three went into Sheffield Studios and in one afternoon cut the bass, drums and rhythm guitar tracks of what would become Another Place, Another Time.  After hearing them, Dixon went to work on writing lyrics. They began recording vocals and guitar overdubs in Pat’s Mancave, with Terry as Engineer.

Pat “The Patman” Hand has an extensive background as an accomplished musician, writer and producer. Pat has albums, singles and development deals to his credit with CBS, A&M and ABC Records.  As lead guitarist and songwriter, Pat was a founding member of the 80’s AOR band Alliance.  In 1982 Alliance released a self-titled album on Handshake Records, with distribution through CBS.  The band has continually been compared to their contemporaries Foreigner and Toto and the album created such a cult following that it was re-released on Retrospect Records in 2007. It continues to receive attention including a recent review in 2021 calling it “A much loved and sought after true masterpiece in need of a proper CD release. 10/10, essential in every serious collection.“

Among other musical projects, Pat went on to be the musical director for Lesley Gore and Brooke Benton and toured with his band Alliance along with Rick Springfield, The Beach Boys, Loverboy and The Guess Who.  He then started his own production company where he booked and produced events with artists including Elton John, Rod Stewart, Billy Joel, Lionel Ritchie, Celine Dion, Stevie Wonder, Seal, Lady Gaga, Tim McGraw, and many others.

After many years of being on the production side of music, with this release Pat “The Patman” Hand has returned to his first love, the guitar.

Pat first encountered Dixon as the singer for Misspent Youth, a popular and energetic band for the last 20 years.  Dixon has played for thousands of fans up and down the east coast from Rhode Island to Florida and down to Cancun.  Headlining festivals, clubs, charity and corporate events he has shared the stage with The Gin Blossoms, Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth, The Bacon Brothers, The Wailers, Los Lobos, G. Love and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.
